Some exciting news for Studio Ghibli fans this morning, with the release of a trailer for the Japanese animation house’s latest offering, From Up on Poppy Hill.

Directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of the great Hayao Miyazaki, who has written the script here, the film is based on a popular manga, and tells the story of a group of teenagers out to save their clubhouse from being demolished by developers.

It certainly seems to have the depth of feeling that we have come to expect from Ghibli, who have created such classics as Spirited Away and My Neighbour Tortoro. The studio last released Arrietty last year, which was a simply beautiful film, and it seems the craftsmanship and storytelling skill typical of Ghibli shows no sign of stopping.

From Up on Poppy Hill is scheduled for a July 16th release in Japan, with no word as yet on a UK bow, but we’re sure that will be announced before long.
