The Cannes trailer for the remake of Maniac has appeared online, and is an intense first look at Elijah Wood’s titular nutter. Written by Alexandre Aja (Who was behind Piranha 3D and The Hills Have Eyes) and Grégory Levasseur, the film is directed by Franck Kalfoun and also stars Nora Arnezeder (Safe House).

It looks like a dark ride, with Wood on particularly unsettling form. He’s got a track record of going off the deep end in Sin City, and we are intrigued to see the final product here.

“Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill.”
