Robert Rodriguez has released the first trailer to the film he made from a trailer. Got that?
Machete first appeared as a fake promo during Grindhouse, his ambitious two-part collaboration with buddy Quentin Tarantino. Now it's been expanded as a full-feature Mexploitation flick with his editor Ethan Maniquis. It comes a-blazing at a time when Arizona is being attacked for its potentially discriminatory new immigration laws, which give police officers the right to stop and interrogate anyone that looks like they could be an illegal immigrant.
Danny Trejo stars as a renegade former Mexican Federale, who roams the streets of Texas looking for work. Handy with a blade, he is hired to assassinate Robert De Niro's senator, before realising he's been set up. He teams up with a bunch of characters to get revenge. Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Seagal and half the guest stars of Lost - Jeff Fahey, Michelle Rodriguez and Cheech Marin - co-star.
