Life Of Pi

Ang Lee's poetic feature gets a trailer, and looks beautiful

The first trailer for director Ang Lee’s Life of Pi has premiered online. It’s a poetic effort without a single line of dialogue, letting the images do the work. The imagery on show here seem to mark this out as Lee at his best, and we can’t wait to see it.

The story concerns a zookeeper’s son, Pi, who finds himself shipwrecked and stranded with a Bengal tiger. There isn’t too much else going in terms of plot in this trailer, which is no bad thing, but there is a rather detailed synopsis for the source novel doing the rounds online this morning that we wish we’d avoided.

Life of Pi stars Adil Hussain, Irrfan Khan, Suraj Sharma, Tabu, and Tobey Maguire, with a menagerie of animals in support. The film will be playing as part of the Toronto Film Festival’s exciting line-up, and is set for a release on the 21st December in the UK.
