Julian Schnabel’s Miral
Freida Pinto and Alexander Siddig star in this true story of Hind Husseini.
The first trailer for Miral has been released, and it's heavy on its star Freida Pinto, and her onscreen father Alexander Siddig.
The latest film from Julian Schnabel (Basquiat, Before Night Falls and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) is highly anticipated, and this initial look indicates it's going to be a dramatic and emotional affair.
It's an adaptation of Rula Jebreal's book, telling the true story of Hind Husseini's effort to build an orphanage in Jerusalem following the 1948 partition of Palestine. Slumdog Millionaire star Pinto takes on only her second acting role as Miral, a young girl placed in the orphanage by her father to get an education. Hopefully this will be the year Hollywood sits up and takes notice of Syriana actor Siddig, with old-fashioned romance Cairo Time, alongside Patricia Clarkson, due to be released this year.
Hiam Abbass plays Husseini, and Willem Dafoe and Vanessa Redgrave co-star. Miral is to be released this December.
