Tom Cruise stars as the ex-military investigator in adaptation of Lee Child's novel.
If there’s one adaptation that was always bound to upset fans, it’s Lee Child's character Jack Reacher. With the plot of one of the Reacher books, One Shot, being adapted to a film in the character's own name, eyebrows have been raised over the casting of Tom Cruise as the imposing 6’ 5”, 250lb ex-military man.
The trailer itself features plenty of action, but is pretty out of step with what made the character so popular. Cruise’s Reacher is something of a chatterbox, and seems to drive an awful lot more than the novel incarnation. Of course, an unfaithful adaptation does not necessarily a bad film make, but it remains to be seen whether this can overcome the tough expectations of Reacher fans.
Jack Reacher is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, and also stars Rosamund Pike, Werner Herzog, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and David Oyelowo.
When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.
