Universal’s Grim Night Gets A Director

German Filmmaker Dennis Gansel is in talks with Universal to direct a feature-length version of Grim Night, the below short.

The short, by Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey from their own screenplay, is a very cool slice of horror/ sci-fi, taking an approach that is not so much “post-apocalyptic” as “currently apocalyptic”. The film is set in the near future, where everyone on Earth locks themselves in for one night a year to avoid the “Grims”. These are essentially a race of Grim Reapers that arrive annually to harvest souls. The short is packed with chilling imagery, including an ominous FEMA billboard reminding the population of the thousands that were lost in the last attack.

Bloody Disgusting are reporting that the studio see the property as a potential franchise, but for now we’re just keen to see this come to fruition – it’s a truly original and frightening concept, which horror sorely needs right now.
