Timur Bekmambetov Talks Forever, Gareth Edwards’ New Project
Abe Lincoln director is producing a new sci-fi for the Monsters filmmaker.
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for sci-fi fans, with all the Prometheus talk showing no signs of going away, and the latest on Neill Blomkamp’s new film Elysium recently, we now have news of Monsters director Gareth Edwards’ latest project.
Bleeding Cool recently spoke to Timur Bekmambetov, who is currently producing a futuristic sci-fi, Forever, for Edwards. “It’s happening. He shot a test film, and we now have to wait until the script is in place. Gareth is meeting with the writer to polish the script. The writer is Dante Harper.”
Harper is no newbie to science fiction, adapting the upcoming All You Need Is Kill, and is also at work on a film version of Asimov’s Foundation. Although none of his scripts have yet made it to the big screen, Hansel and Gretel: Witch hunters should give us a first glimpse next year, with the Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner starring film recently pushed back to the spring.
Forever is to be set in a future Earth, where a large amount of the population are robotic. There will be human characters, including a young boy who will be one of two leads.
Edwards is also at work on the Godzilla remake, a project we’re keen to see more of, but Forever sounds like the sort of large-scope sci-fi we’re also keen to see, so expect more news on Edwards' slate as it breaks.
