The Hunger Games: Mockingjay to Be Two Films
Final entry in franchise will be split into two parts, Harry Potter style.
In the least surprising news of the decade, Deadline have confirmed that the third entry in the Hunger Games franchise, Mockingjay, will be split into two films, with release dates of November 2014 and 2015.
Given that the first Hunger Games film made more than a few pounds at the box office - $678m at the last count – Lionsgate have moved to the Warner Bros/ Harry Potter model of splitting the last instalment into two, in order to double their money.
Call us cynical, but given that the last book in the series is in fact shorter than the first, this seems a mite unnecessary. Asking fans to cough up twice for a story that could be comfortably handled in one self-contained film seems a little off, but then we never know what changes or additions they will make to the plot, so we’ll reserve judging this news too harshly for now.
