The 54th BFI London Film Festival Announced
Black Swan, Miral, The King's Speech, Let Me In and Biutiful to screen in London this October.
The full programme for the 54th BFI London Film Festival has been revealed today.
Amanda Nevill, director of the BFI, and Sandra Hebron, Artistic Director of the festival, introduced a half hour showreel of all the goodies lucky filmlovers are going to enjoy between 13th and 28th October.
We know already that Never Let Me Go and 127 Hours are the opening and closing night galas, so let's take a look at the highlights inbetween. The dates given are the premieres, which will be attended by directors and stars, but there will be extra screenings available.
The American Express Gala 21st October:
The King's Speech - Colin Firth stars as Prince Albert, in Tom Hooper's look at the professional relationship between the young king and his speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush.
The Centerpiece Gala 18th October:
Another Year - Mike Leigh brings us another powerful film about friendship and family, starring Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen as a happy couple friends with Lesley Manville.
The Windows 7 Gala 26th October:
The First Grader - Oliver Litondo is an 84 year old African villager who enrols in primary school.
The American Airlines Gala 15th October:
Conviction - Tony Goldwyn directs Hilary Swank as a woman who goes to law school to free her brother, Sam Rockwell, a man who faces the death penalty in this true story.
The Mofilm Gala 25th October:
The Kids Are All Right - Lisa Cholodenko writes and directs this comedy drama with Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as a long-term couple with teenage children. Mark Ruffalo is the sperm donor who comes back into their life.
The Jameson Gala 22nd October:
Black Swan - One of the most talked about films of the year, Darren Aronofsky presents this psychological thriller, starring Natalie Portman as a repressed ballerina.
The May Fair Hotel Gala 19th October:
West Is West - A sequel to East Is East, with the Anglo-Pakistani family on a trip to Pakistan.
The Film On The Square Gala 26th October:
Biutiful - Javier Bardem stars in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's follow-up to Babel, as a corrupt hustler and devoted family man dying of cancer.
The Film On The Square Gala 18th October:
Miral - Julian Schnabel brings us the true story of a young woman, Frieda Pinto, during the birth of the State Of Israel. Alexander Siddig co-stars as her father.

Abel - Actor Diego Luna directs the story of a disturbed nine year old.
The American - Anton Corbijn follows up Control with George Clooney as an assassin.
Blue Valentine - Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as an intense couple in reflection.
It's Kind Of A Funny Story - Zach Galifianakis stars in this darkly funny look at teenage angst.
Let Me In - Cloverfield director Matt Reeves remakes Let The Right One In, with Chloe Moretz as a child vampire.
Meek's Cutoff - Michelle Williams and Paul Dano star in this story of three families stranded on the Oregon Trail in 1845.
