See Joe Carnahan’s Daredevil Pitch Reel
Bid to keep rights sadly fails, director posts exciting 'sizzle reel'.
With Daredevil the subject of a long-running rights issue between Marvel and Fox, director Joe Carnahan had been attached to a new version of the story, in an attempt to beat the expiration date on Fox’s permission to adapt the character.
That bid has sadly failed, report Variety, with the clock simply running down before a film could be put into production. This is a real shame, since Carnahan has posted his ‘sizzle reel’ pitch for the film, in both NC-17 and PG-13 versions, online. The director confirmed that this won't be going ahead via Twitter; “DD pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it. The clock ticked down at Fox, that's why it went tits up”.
We’ve embedded them below, and having checked them out, are hugely disappointed that the studio couldn’t grant Fox the extension they asked for – the NC-17 version is our favourite, looking like a powerful and exciting superhero film, somewhere in between the two extremes of The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers in terms of tone.
We can’t help but wonder what Marvel have planned for the character – it’s not like they don’t have a lot to be getting on with right now, what with the second phase of the Avengers universe going into production, and Guardians of the Galaxy to wrangle. More news as it breaks.
