Rooney Mara Named New Lisbeth Salander

I really hope David Fincher knows what he's doing, as Rooney Mara has been chosen for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake.

The American actress was unbelievably bland in the new Nightmare On Elm Street this year, where she was a completely forgettable Nancy. However, Fincher must have confidence in Mara, as she worked with him on the upcoming The Social Network - I hope I'll be eating my words this October. She's now been cast as Lisbeth Salander, a role immortalised to perfection by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace in the Millenium trilogy. Lisbeth is a socially and emotionally awkward hacker dealing with abuse who teams up a disgraced journalist independently working on a murder case.

Daniel Craig is already on board as Mikael Blomkvist, with the action being set in the novel's native Sweden. Filming starts next month, with a release scheduled for 21st December 2011. Plenty of time to get acquainted with the original films, the second of which, The Girl Who Played With Fire, is out on 27th August.
