Ridley Scott To Produce YouTube Project
Kevin Macdonald's Life In A Day will use contributions from around the world - get ready on 24th July.
Kevin Macdonald is to turn a social experiment into a feature film with Life In A Day.
The director of Touching The Void, State Of Play and The Last King Of Scotland is embarking on the project with none other than Ridley Scott, who is acting as producer under his Scott Free production company.
Their plan is to use footage "that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010."
"It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking," Macdonald continued on YouTube.com/LifeinaDay. "What better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world's online community."
Scott Free will work with Rick Smolan, creator of "A Day in the Life" and CEO of Against All Odds Productions, who will distribute cameras to individuals in remote regions of the world in an effort to ensure that the film is as inclusive and representative as possible. Nice gesture, but let's face it, this is going to be a very one-sided project.
Anyone whose contribution makes it into the finished film will be credited as co-director, and 20 lucky people will be invited to the Sundance Film Festival in 2011 for the world premiere.
