Ridley Scott Reveals Alien Prequel Details

Sir Ridley Scott has revealed details of his Alien prequels.

Speaking at this weekend's LA Times' Hero Complex Festival, the director announced the script has been written and they're now in pre-production.

Scott, who directed the 1979 classic, will focus on the "space jockey" seen in the first film, remarking that he was always amazed no one had covered its backstory in the sequels. In fact, report Collider, if Scott had done the sequel - which ended up being the masterful Aliens in the hands of James Cameron - he would've made the movie he is about to make. Which would've meant no bad-ass Sigourney Weaver, so everything works out for the best.

Now Scott gets to explore the immense alien corpse that the team aboard the Nostromo encounter when they set down on planet LV-426, leading to John Hurt's unfortunate mishap with a pod. We'll finally get to see who or what was in that derelict pilot's chair.

Scott mentioned that the prequel is set a long time before Alien, so they can fit in enough story for two films. The movies will "go deep" into terra forming, and what it takes for humans to leave earth. He's also doing a lot of underwater research.

All very exciting news, and now the only thing Scott needs to do is assemble a cast as utterly perfect as his original.
