Renner, Ruffalo Officially Join The Avengers

Mark Ruffalo has been officially announced as Edward Norton's replacement as The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers.

Marvel presented their star-studded cast at San Diego Comic-Con at the weekend, bringing out Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner, confirming the latter's part as Hawkeye.

The prolific Ruffalo, last seen in Shutter Island, was introduced by Marvel president Kevin Feige once the already established cast had walked out on stage.

Samuel L. Jackson, as Nick Fury, explained the story of The Avengers, and why the world's biggest superhero team was needed. Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) have yet to be seen in their roles, with their respective films due out next year, but Iron Man 2 stars Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Clark Gregg (SHIELD Agent Coulson) were there to hold their hands.

Buffy creator Joss Whedon is directing this mammoth task, which involves assembling Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury and Agent Coulson together onscreen for the first time. He's got a while to work on it though, as The Avengers isn't due to hit cinemas until May 2012.
