Phillip Seymour Hoffman Offered Catching Fire Role
Oscar-winning actor could take role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
With Catching Fire, the second film in Lionsgate’s mega-franchise The Hunger Games, set to start shooting in the next few months, the casting has been kicking up a gear. The role of Finnick Odair has already been in the news recently, with the scotched rumours of Robert Pattinson taking it clearing the way for a reported shortlist of Garret Hedlund, Armie Hammer and Taylor Kitsch.
The news today is that director Francis Lawrence is eyeing Oscar-winning Phillip Seymour Hoffman for the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, the designer of the games themselves. Nothing is confirmed yet, and Hoffman is said to be considering taking a break. Presumably this is a response to losing the Tony award to James Corden the other night, which is going to be hard to bounce back from… this is a strange, frightening world we live in.
Hoffman would certainly be a welcome addition to the series, so we're firmly hoping a deal can be locked in for the immensely talented actor.
