Paranormal Activity 2 Finally Gets Director
The first film's helmer Oren Peli announces that Tod 'Kip' Williams is the man for the sequel.
The dreaded sequel to Paranormal Activity finally has a director.
It's been a bit of an ordeal for the producers, including the original's director Oren Peli, as they lost their first choice Kevin Greutert, after he turned out to be contractually obliged to Saw 7. Wonder if it had anything to do with Saw studio Lionsgate's sour grapes at the follow-up to last summer's understated horror smash opening the same weekend as the death throes of the violent franchise.
Now Peli has issued a statement revealing Kip Williams (picture above with wife Gretchen Mol) will direct Paranormal Activity 2. He said:
"I have some awesome news for the fans of Paranormal Activity - director Kip Williams will join us for the next chapter of the story.
We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans... and I can't wait to be a part of what he's putting together.
I don't want to spoil the story, but I promise it will surprise you. Stay tuned.
The New Yorker, credited as Tod Williams in his previous work, directed Jeff Bridges flick The Door in the Floor, as well as The Adventures of Sebastian Cole and Wings Over The Rockies. Paramount are still angling for an October 2010 release despite the delays.
