Oren Peli’s The Chernobyl Diaries Has A Trailer
Paranormal Activity creator's latest looks spooky, but is it in bad taste?
Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli has kept himself busy away from his spooky franchise, and his latest production, The Chernobyl Diaries, now has a trailer for our delectation.
Produced and written by Peli, but directed by Special Effects man Bradley Parker (Let Me In, Fight Club), it follows a group of friends on an “extreme tourism” trip to the eponymous Ukrainian disaster zone. There they have a fine time seeing the sights, and return home with plenty of funny stories and gurning photos to show everybody.
Of course they don’t, and the resulting horror is what we are greeted with here. It certainly seems to handle the scares well enough, and abandoned cities are always a creepy setting, but we can’t help but wonder if the statute of limitations on tragic events is still in place on Chernobyl. A lot of lives were lost in that accident, and it could be seen as rather bad taste to base a horror film around it.
Time will tell how tastefully it is handled, and The Chernobyl Diaries is released on May 25th.
