Martin Freeman Still On For The Hobbit?
Following rumours that the Sherlock star had turned down the role, there are reports that the studio are still trying.
Following yesterday's "news" that Martin Freeman turned down The Hobbit because of his commitment to Sherlock, it turns out he is still in the running.
The Sun had sources that claimed The Office star had to turn down the starring role of Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings prequel, playing a younger version of the character inhabited by Ian Holm in Peter Jackson's trilogy.
Today, EW.com report that Freeman is the first choice to play Bilbo and that New Line and MGM have brought the actor a proposed schedule, where he could accept the role and still play Watson to Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock in the second BBC series.
He's an ideal choice for the role, but I feel that this production of JRR Tolkien's classic book is so beleaguered it's hardly worth the huge effort it will take, as the story is miniscule compared to LotR's sprawling tale.
