Joss Whedon Confirmed For Avengers 2

With The Avengers picking up something in the region of $1.5m this year, it's not really a surprise, but welcome news all the same that Joss Whedon will be back for the sequel.

The news comes via Variety, who also say that Whedon will helm a Marvel TV series for ABC. This is great news, with Whedon so closely involved in the "Phase 2" stuff that Marvel are planning, we can imagine that the films leading up to his "season finale" will have some influence from the man himself. Captain America: Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, and maybe even Ant-Man are all set to build up towards The Avengers 2, which equals a lot of work for the insanely popular filmmaker.

We obviously cannot wait for more news to break on this one, and will bring it your way as soon as we can, but here's Marvel's statement for now;

Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.
