Joseph Gordon-Levitt As The Riddler, More Than A Rumour

Following his role in Inception, and Christopher Nolan's penchant for working with the same actors, it has long been rumoured that Joseph Gordon-Levitt might be in line to play The Riddler in Batman 3.

Now, it looks to be more than mere speculation, because, according to a source over at First Showing, Gordon-Levitt is both available and interested.

They've seen a studio casting grid that lists not only The Riddler as a character, but the actor's name with "interested" next to it. However, the same grid also puts the age range required as 35-45, but you can imagine there could be some flexibility for the 29-year-old Gordon-Levitt, who shone alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in this year's best film. He was responsible for some of the slyest (and rarest) humour to be found in Inception, while loaded with charisma, and I have every confidence the former child star can pull out something extraordinary, à la Heath Ledger in Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Batman 3 is aiming for a July 2012 release.
