Jamie Bell Joins The Retreat
The Billy Elliot and Defiance star is named as the mysterious soldier who comes into Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton's life.
After a cast turnaround which has seen Jason Isaacs and now David Tennant come and go, Deadline report Jamie Bell has been confirmed as the third cast member of The Retreat.
The psychological thriller has been pitched as "Knife In the Water meets Dead Calm", and is an intriguing first feature for writer and director Carl Tibbets. Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton are a couple who retreat to a remote British island to save their marriage. Their life is turned upside down when a bioharzard-suited soldier (Bell) washes up on shore and tells them an airborne virus has wiped out most of the mainland. The couple, cut off from civilisation, only have his word on the matter, so you can imagine the tension that will get underway.
I'm thinking this must have a pretty tremendous script to be attracting such big names, although I'm not convinced Bell is quite right for a potentially threatening part. Or maybe, following acclaimed roles in Hallam Foe and Defiance, he could surprise us all. Shooting starts in Wales next month.
