Jackie Earle Haley Joins Robocop

We keep saying it, but the Robocop reboot just keeps on easing our initial cynicism with every new announcement. The latest casting news from Deadline is that Jackie Earle Haley is in line to join the film, another impressive name to add to the already promising cast list.

The Watchmen actor is set to play Maddox, a military man who trains Robocop in combat. This does mark an interesting addition to the concept, since we’re presumably going to be getting a peek into something more than mere programming.

With Elite Squad director Jose Padhila behind the camera, Haley joins Joel Kinnaman in the title role, with Abbie Cornish as Mrs. Murphy. Samuel L Jackson is set to play a powerful media mogul (are there any other kinds?) by the name of Novak, Gary Oldman is the scientist who creates the new-look Alex Murphy, and Hugh Laurie is set to step into the villain’s role. The other news doing the rounds this morning is that Jay Baruchel is circling a role, but this is not confirmed as yet.
