How To Train Your Dragon To Be Franchise
Dreamworks plan a sequel and more for the adorable animation.
The words sequel and 3D don't normally create that much excitement for me, but I'm thrilled by the news that there's going to be another How To Train Your Dragon.
In fact, in a press statement yesterday Dreamworks Animation revealed that Toothless the Dragon and Hiccup the Viking will be on hand for a whole franchise. CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said: "2010 is off to a strong start, thanks in large part to the performance of How to Train Your Dragon, which - having grossed nearly $375 million to date in worldwide box office - has become DreamWorks Animation's next franchise. We plan to release the sequel theatrically in 2013."
The adorable film started relatively weak at the box office but has grown steadily, returning to the top of the US chart this week. Based on Cressida Cowell's books, the film features Jay Baruchel as the voice of a teenager who befriends a previously fearsome dragon, a creature so cute I would happily pay money just to see him flying in circles for two hours.
