GI Joe: Retaliation moved back nine months, Ted takes old release date
Paramount delay their sequel, as Universal swoop to bring Ted to us sooner.
In a startlingly late move, Paramount have shifted GI Joe: Retaliation from their summer slate, pushing the film back to March 2013, as reorted by Deadline last night.
The reason given by the studio is that they are planning on converting the film into 3D, but we’re not sure if we buy this. Having been at a press preview of some footage a few weeks ago, and given the lukewarm reaction in the room afterwards we’d suggest that this is more indicative of a lack of confidence in the film, especially considering the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man was set to be released the following week. Adding some tacked-on 3D raises the ticket price by a few bob, so could this be a simple exercise in damage limitation from Paraamount?
Whilst this may upset GI Joe fans (both of you), the good news for everyone else is that, according to Collider, Universal are looking to swoop in and move Ted up to the now vacant June 29th release date in the states. Presumably this will hasten things here in Blighty too, so we won’t have to wait too long for Seth MacFarlane’s R-rated bad bear tale.
