Francis Lawrence Offered Catching Fire
I am Legend director offered Hunger Games sequel.
With Gary Ross' departure from the planned Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, Lionsgate have been on the hunt for a replacement director.
Having reportedly narrowed their shortlist down to two candidates, I am Legend director Francis Lawrence and Moneyball helmer Bennett Miller, Heat Vision are now reporting that the intention is to offer Lawrence the gig.
There were said to be a number of exciting names on the shortlist, including Carey Fukunaga, Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu, Tomas Alfredsson and Duncan Jones, but the preference is for the Water for Elephants man. He is yet to formally accept the project, but we can't imagine it will be long before the ink dries on this one.
Suzanne Collins is said to be heavily involved with the writing process for the sequel, working closely with screenwriter Simon Beaufoy to form as faithful an adaptation as is possible. We look forward to seeing how Lawrence handles the sequel, but we can't help but wonder what a Duncan Jones-directed version would be like...
