Drew Barrymore No Longer Attached To Oz Sequel?

Back in May it was reported that Drew Barrymore may be directing a 'sequel' to The Wizard Of Oz.

However, it looks like the actress and director is no longer attached to Surrender Dorothy. Barrymore was in London this week with her Going The Distance co-star and on-off boyfriend Justin Long, with the pair giving a talk at the Apple Store on Regent Street.

ScreenGeek chum Tara Bonar asked Long about working with Sam Raimi on Drag Me To Hell, and whether he would like to be directed by Barrymore. Here's what he said about Raimi: "Sam's one of my favourite directors, and I've been a huge super-nerdy fan of his since I saw Evil Dead, and it was such a treat to work with him. I would've done anything in this movie, and he was kind enough to ask me to play a pretty good part. He's truly one of the nicest human beings I've ever met, aside from anyone in the business or whatever. He treats people with so much respect, regardless of their station."

He continued, talking about Barrymore's amazing directorial debut Whip It: "It's one of the things he and Drew have in common. They both have a unique vision. I saw Whip It, and I felt it was a throwback to the movies I loved watching in the early Eighties, things like Breaking Away, and I loved Poison Ivy - not your Poison Ivy. But yet so unique. I was so proud of her when I saw that. I would love to work with both of them again!"

And then he dropped the Oz bomb: "And weirdly, they're both directing movies about the Wizard Of Oz next, Sam and Drew." Barrymore shook her head. "Oh no?" asked Long. She replied "no", before Long apologised.

Surrender Dorothy is a script from Stranger Than Fiction writer Zach Helm, and is in the hands of Warner Bros and Barrymore's production company Flower Films.
