David Yates Confirmed For The Stand

Just as we were starting to get excited about the mooted big-screen version of Stephen King's masterpiece The Stand, Hitfix have reported that the details are just being ironed out for the involvement of Harry Potter director David Yates, along with writer Steve Klovas to take on the project.

We absoultely love this novel, and are pretty happy with this choice of personnel - both Yates and Klovas have shown they have what it takes to turn a literary epic into a successful film franchise. The story was turned into a TV mini series in 1994 which worked well, leading many to question how appropriate a film version would be.

As massive fanboys, we do have a couple of criteria of our own we would like to see fulfilled. Firstly, surely this has to be a trilogy of long films, to account for the scale and huge cast of the book. The novel itself is divided neatly into three, which seems to make sense. Secondly, please, please, please don't let CBS push for a PG-13 certificate on this - for The Stand to work, we need to see the horrors of Captain Trips, and there are numerous violent/sex scenes which are absolutely integral to the plot.

Weirdly enough, we put down our thoughts on a potential cast earlier this week - see that article here, and please do let us know what you think.
