Danny Boyle To Be Honoured At London Film Festival
Plus the shortlist of films up for the 54th BFI London Film Festival awards.
Danny Boyle is to be presented with a BFI Fellowship at this year's London Film Festival.
The inaugural awards ceremony took place last year, with A Prophet being named best film at the festival. This year's awards will take place on 27th October at Jerwood Hall, LSO St Luke's.
With Boyle's 127 Hours the closing night gala, one year after his Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire brought the event to an end, the director said of his honour: "A significant helping of humility is called for in the face of this honour and that is not difficult considering those awarded it before. I am shocked, flattered and delighted to receive the Fellowship on behalf of everyone who has helped me make the films, the successful ones and the not so successful ones, and on behalf of all runts in every litter."
The shortlist for this year's Best Film has been revealed, which will be judged by a jury chaired by Patricia Clarkson, which includes Gabriel Byrne, Sandy Powell and Shekhar Kapur.
The films are:
127 Hours
Another Year
Archipelago
Black Swan
How I Ended This Summer
The King's Speech
Meek's Cutoff
Never Let Me Go
Of Gods And Men
The Sleeping Beauty
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives
Best British Newcomer will be judged by Andrea Calderwood, Antonia Bird, David Morrissey, Mike Goodridge, editor of Screen International and Tony Grisoni. Morrissey commented: "It’s a great privilege for me to be on the Best British Newcomer Jury at the LFF this year and that the festival continues to support new and innovative talent in Britain. It’s such a strong year and fills me with hope for the future of our industry, if, of course, we can find government support and funding for these nominees to go on and become world renowned film makers."
