Carrie Remake Lands Director

The pointless remake machine has apparently spluttered into life again, this time throwing up a bid to go over Stephen King’s novel Carrie again, according to Deadline. Seeing as this was already made into a pretty iconic horror film by Brian De Palma back in 1979, it seems a bit of a doomed idea.

Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce is attached to the project, although there is little else in the way of news in terms of personnel or timescales at the moment.

The story deals with a troubled high school student, Carrie, who suffers at the hands of both bullies and her overbearing mother. She also happens to exhibit powerful psychic abilities, and soon ends up causing all manner of trouble for her tormentors. The original starred Sissy Spacek in the title role, and featured an iconic ending which we hope the suits at MGM don’t try to top with buckets of CGI. Forgive us for sounding cynical but is there really any point to this? Or is it a text ripe for revisiting? Let us know what you think below.
