Battleship’s Abysmal Casting Grows
Peter Berg goes the Michael Bay route and casts a Victoria's Secret model alongside Rihanna.
One wonders if the forthcoming Battleship movie is going to be a huge ironic joke, after the latest female lead has been announced.
Peter Berg - who I will always have a soft spot for after starring in the incredible 1994 film noir The Last Seduction - has yet to make an impression as a director, despite being handed high profile projects. He managed to balls up something starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron (Hancock), so god only knows what's going to happen when he works with inexperienced cast members.
True Blood star and "Sweden's sexiest man" Alexander Skarsgard is one of the insanely beautiful actors hired for Universal's film based on the Hasbro game, starring alongside former model Taylor Kitsch as a US Navy officer battling aliens. With pop star Rihanna joining the cast, it gets even more laughable with the news that Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker has now been cast as Kitsch's love interest. Michael Bay's got nothing on Berg. Speaking of which, Decker was in fact considered for Bay's Transformers 3, before her Victoria's Secret chum (and clone) Rosie Huntington-Whiteley nabbed the part.
However, with a $200 million budget, Universal are taking this shit very seriously indeed. Oh dear.
