Anime Director Satoshi Kon Dies
The creator of Paprika and Millenium Actress passes away at the age of 46.
I had always been a bit wary of anime, but recently watched - and was subsequently blown away by - Paprika.
So it's sad to report that its writer and director Satoshi Kon has died from pancreatic cancer at the early age of 46. Born in Japan, Kon started his career as a manga artist, before making his directorial debut in 1998 with Perfect Blue. Famed for Millenium Actress and Paprika, both exploring complex science fiction scenarios, the status of his final film, The Dream Machine, is unknown.
Paprika was a clear influence on Christopher Nolan's Inception, and his peer Darren Aronofsky even paid for the right to use the bathtub scene from Perfect Blue in Requiem For A Dream.
