Pierce Brosnan impresses as a Tony Blair-esque figure in Roman Polanski's new political thriller.
I had it in my head I was going to boycott all Roman Polanski films after only recently learning that his infamous case was only termed unlawful sex due to a plea bargain, and was actually the rape of a child. The former fugitive is now under house arrest, meaning he's not been about since his new film The Ghost premiered at the Berlin Film Festival back in February (for some strange reason, the UK is the only place where the film doesn't have its actual title of The Ghost Writer).
But, off I trotted to see his new flick, as I must judge an artist's work on its own merit. As all luvvies like to defend each other, Polanski has never been short of a fantastic cast in his films, with Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor starring in this admittedly great political thriller.
McGregor is a ghost writer employed by disgraced former British Prime Minister Brosnan to rework his memoirs, and uncovers dodgy goings on. Based on the novel by Robert Harris, The Ghost stars a tremendous Olivia Williams and Kim Cattrall, and is out on 16th April.
